Football: Simpson 43, Buena Vista 13

Simpson dominated Buena Vista in the Iowa Conference opener behind a 254-yard offensive performance by Jordan Beem and a swarming defensive effort that forced turnovers on four consecutive possessions.

Women’s Soccer: No. 24 Dubuque 2, Simpson 1

Women’s soccer pushed No. 24 Dubuque to their limit but couldn’t generate enough offense as they fell to 2-8 in their sixth straight loss. Casey Reisen scored her third goal of the season in the loss.

Men’s Soccer: Dubuque 2, Simpson 1

Tyler Neuman boomed a shot that caromed off Louis Joslyn into the net to tie the game at 1-1, but Dubuque’s Gonzalo Hernandez raced from coast to coast for a game-winning score in the 89th minute. Simpson dropped to 4-6-1 and 0-2 in IIAC play.

Women’s Tennis: Wartburg 9, Simpson 0 | Luther 9, Simpson 0

The Storm were blanked in consecutive matches on Saturday to close regular season play. Despite the losses, Simpson (5-6, 3-4) will still have a spot in the IIAC Tournament, coming up this weekend.

Women’s Golf: IIAC Championships, Tied-5th

Lydia Martin is a team-best 17/39 golfers for Simpson as the Storm are tied with Coe for fifth place after shooting a 731 at the first two rounds of the IIAC Championships. Wartburg is 41 strokes ahead of Central for first place.

Volleyball: 2-2 @ the Illinois Wesleyan Barker Classic

Simpson fell 3-2 to Lincoln Christian and 3-0 to Illinois Wesleyan before rebounding to beat both Adrian and Rose-Hulman in five sets. Olivia Sulentic was named to the All-Tournament team.

Cross Country: Dan Huston Invite – Men, 4th/7, Women 3rd/8

The men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the Dan Huston Invite hosted by Wartburg College in Waverly over the weekend. The men were led by Blake Willadsen (24th/113) and the women by Sadie Timms, who finished an impressive 7th/111 runners. Next up is the UW-Lacrosse Invite on Oct. 17.
