BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – After falling to Lincoln Christian and Illinois Wesleyan, the Storm (11-11) rallied to win 3-2 over both Rose-Hulman and Adrian to finish the weekend .500.  

Olivia Sulentic had 138 digs on the weekend, earning a spot on the all-tournament team.

Friday, Oct. 2 vs. Lincoln Christian: L, 3-2 (25-19, 13-25, 22-25, 25-20, 13-15)

Both teams played relatively even volleyball as Simpson narrowly outhit Lincoln Christian, .237 to .207, but the Lions narrowly pulled out a 15-13 win in set five to take the match.

Jacqueline Luth had 15 kills and Sara Hoppenworth 33 assists to lead Simpson.

Friday, Oct. 2 vs. Illinois Wesleyan: L, 3-0 (25-12, 25-20, 15-16)

Not much could be done to quell the Illinois Wesleyan attack as the Titans hit a sizzling .398 and .429 in the third set to cruise to a straight sets win.

The Storm were only held to 30 kills as a team, eight of which came from Tabitha Blaser.

Saturday, Oct. 3 vs. Adrian: W, 3-2 (20-25, 25-23, 21-25, 25-22, 17-15)

Luth was the difference for Simpson in an exciting five-set win over the Bulldogs of Adrian. The sophomore had 21 kills and Blaser added 15. Not to be lost in the effort was Hoppenworth who had 55 assists to set up the likes of Luth and Blaser.

Saturday, Oct. 3 vs. Rose-Hulman: W, 3-2 (18-25, 25-22, 23-25, 25-13, 15-9)

Simpson had to rally back from a 2-1 deficit to salvage a .500 record in the tournament, but they were up to the challenge and did just that.

Blaser continued her consistent play, putting up 19 kills. Sulentic and Hoppenworth put up huge numbers once more, as the Storm got 54 digs from Sulentic and 47 assists from the senior Hoppenworth.

Back to IIAC Play:

Simpson stands at 0-3 in Iowa Conference play, and with only four matches remaining, the Storm will have to start turning it around on Tuesday as they host Dubuque at 7:30 p.m.
