Five ways to avoid cabin fever

Cabin fever is the feeling of being restless and sad from being stuck indoors for long periods of time.

1. Get physical.

Going to the gym or following along to some YouTube workout videos can help you feel better. Even though it’s cold outside, your body still needs physical activity. Watching Netflix all day is not going to make you feel better.

2. Change up your scenery.

Go visit the library or walk over to the Kent Campus Center. Staying in your room all day can help contribute to cabin fever. Going new places can help you feel less cooped up while still staying out of the cold.

3. Do something creative like an art project or write a story.

Take some time to let your creative juices run wild. Creating your own world can help distract you from how cold it is in the real world.

4. Get a plant to help you feel more connected to the outdoors.

If you can’t go outside bring outside indoors. Some plants can even be useful for cooking or other needs. Just don’t forget to water it.

5. Read a good book.

When is the last time you read for fun? Reading engages your mind and gets you to imagine new worlds.
