INDIANOLA—Severe weather is heading toward Indianola. Simpson students are cautioned to stay alert and seek shelter if necessary.

Dean of Students Luke Behaunek emailed campus at 7:52 p.m., saying:

“Over the next few hours, please be weather aware. A heavy line of storms, which have previously produced tornado warnings, are heading towards Indianola currently. Please take shelter if Indianola weather sirens are set off.

The most dangerous part of the storm seems to be missing us to the east, but please pay close attention. Flash flooding and heavy winds may also accompany these storms.

If possible, we will use the SAFE alert system in the event of a weather emergency that will impact Indianola, but weather conditions can change very rapidly, and we may not have time to send something out in that event.”

According to the National Weather Service, south central Iowa, including Indianola, is under a tornado warning until 8:30 p.m. A tornado watch will remain in effect until 10 p.m.
