Even though freshman Clint Manny was recruited by several national wrestling powers, he decided on Simpson College with a little help from his Winterset high school Athletic Director.

“Gary Christensen helped me decide where to go because his son Cory came here and had a great experience,” said Manny.

“Cory really liked Coach Peterson and thought it would be a good fit for me.”

Manny, who was a four-time state qualifier in high school, is off to an incredible start so far with the Storm.

He defeated Zach Kallai from Case Western who is ranked third in the nation.

“I didn’t even know that he was rated until after the match,” said Manny.

“Coach Peterson told my dad but he never told me.”

Manny has an overall record of 26-6 with 9 pins this season. He had a personal winning streak of 16, which is the second longest winning streak in school history.

“Clint is just a special wrestler. He stays just as aggressive in the third period as he does in the first. His intensity actually increases,” said Head Wrestling Coach Ron Peterson.

Manny has high expectations for himself for the rest of the season.

“As a team we are looking forward to the conference duals but as for me personally I would like to be a national qualifier and go pretty far.”
