Rebecca Siler may have been intimidated when she came to Simpson College this past fall, but the freshman has not backed down from any challenges placed upon her thus far.

Siler had a right to be intimidated when she got here. Simpson is known throughout the country as being a national powerhouse in Division III after winning National Titles in 1997 and 1999.

“I was intimidated when I first got here but the other girls on the team said I didn’t need to be,” Siler said.

Siler has started in 17 out of 18 games for the Storm this season in centerfield.

“She (Siler) has not been intimidated at all at this level,” Head Coach Henry Christowski said. “She has been a very pleasant surprise and every game she is taking another step forward.”

Junior Krista Schuur was also instrumental in getting Siler on campus.

Both are originally from Muscatine where they won a high school state championship together.

“Having Krista talk about Simpson and softball made me even more excited,” Siler said. “It is great to play with her again.”

So far this season Siler is batting close to .400. She has had 21 hits this season to go along with 3 home runs.

Siler also has 9 RBI’s and has a .566 slugging percentage.

“She makes contact with the ball all the time,” Christowski said. “She doesn’t strike out very often and she has great speed and a sense for where the ball is going.”

Siler is enjoying every minute of softball so far with the Storm.

“Everyone on the team is so fun,” Siler said. “We are all pretty tight.”

Siler has decided to major in elementary education during her career at Simpson.
