Keep a clear calendar this weekend for Simpson College Family Weekend.

Sophomores Becka Neary and Kathy Klaver, along with the help of the Campus Activities Board (CAB), have been working under the supervision of Nicole Darling to pack the weekend full of exciting activities to entertain families and students.

Magician Mike Super is set to perform his magical tricks and illusions Friday at 8 p.m. in Brenton Student Center (BSC). Simpson’s baseball and softball teams will exhibit their athletic abilities with inter-squad scrimmages at McBride Field and the Simpson Softball Complex beginning at 9 a.m.

In addition to this, family members can register and pick up their complimentary football tickets from 9 to 11 a.m. in BSC.

During this time, there will also be a continental breakfast offered in BSC. President R. Kevin LaGree and his wife will be in attendance to meet those present.

Prior to the football game against Dubuque College, a tailgating picnic will be held on the quad.

Kickoff for the game is 1 p.m. in Bill Buxton Stadium, the same place the men’s soccer game against Colorado College will be played later that evening.

After a full day of athletic activities, families are invited to come and relax with a game of Bingo. Games begin at 10 p.m. and will be held in BSC, promising valuable prizes.

Later, Indian Lanes encourages families to attend midnight bowling for a meager shoe price of $1.

Rounding out the weekend is a family worship service held at Smith Memorial Chapel. Brunch will be available from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. in Pfeiffer Dining Hall as well.

Family Weekend is designed to give student’s families a more vivid look into the Simpson College experience.

According to Neary, the number of families attending the weekend are down from in the past. But Simpson is counting on a lot of late registrations. However, the many out-of-state families planning to attend have already registered due to prior lodging arrangements.

Students are also excited about Family Weekend. They’re anxious to have their families visit.

“I’m excited to see both my parents and spend some quality time together,” freshman Amy Hubner said. “I haven’t seen them for a long time.”

Freshman Marissa Campbell also can’t wait to see her parents and show them the life she’s living at Simpson.

There is still time for registration if it has slipped the mind. Families are asked to contact Simpson College for appropriate information on late registration.
