Buzzard Billie’s Flying Carp Caf, located on CourtAvenue in Des Moines, was everything to be expected from casualdining and Southern Cajun food.

The atmosphere at Buzzard Billie’s was one of few found in thearea. It is located in the lower level of a 1901 multi-leveledbrick building.

Exposed brick walls and original wood beams add to the feelingof the underground pub. Buzzard Billie’s also features an outdoorpatio enjoyed by many in the summer.

Dim lighting and true vintage memorabilia surrounded my diningcompanion and I as we viewed the endless menu.

Menu options such as Seafood Jambalaya, Blackened Tilapia, GatorFingers, Shrimp Creole and many other unique dishes native to theSouth teased our taste buds.

In addition to the Cajon food, there are also options withoutthe spicy kick.

We settled the rumbling in our stomachs with Shrimp FettucciniAlfredeaux and a Blackened Chicken Mushroom Swiss.

As mentioned in the menu, both were “jazzed up with a twist ofsouthern hospitality.” To top off our dinning experience, we hadthe recommended New Orleans Bread Pudding, which is homemadedaily.

Pricing was also reasonable. Prices for entrees and dinnersranged anywhere from $6 to $13. So if you are looking for areasonably priced meal with a unique atmosphere, Buzzard Billie’sCarp Caf is truly a place where Mardi Gras occurs allyear.
