Men’s Basketball

Simpson defeated Central 88-31 last Tuesday in Pella. It was thefewest number of points allowed by the Storm since the 1924-25season when Simpson defeated Central 21-16. Senior Jason Snyderscored a game high 16 points with eight rebounds.

Wartburg defeated Simpson 74-59 last Friday in Waverly. FreshmanRyan Hittenmiller led the Storm with 16 points.

Simpson recorded an exciting victory when they beat Buena Vista112-111 in double over time in Storm Lake last Saturday. FreshmanJason Burkhardt posted a career high 26 points and went 10-11 fromthe free throw line. Hittenmiller added 19 points.

Women’s Basketball

Simpson defeated Central 55-54 on senior Amanda Pilcher’s freethrow with 11 seconds left on the clock last Tuesday in Pella. TheStorm forced 34 Central turnovers and made 18 steals. Pilcher ledthe Storm with 11 points and seven rebounds.

The Storm recorded another victory defeating Wartburg 72-68 lastFriday in Waverly. Junior Ashley Bogaards led Simpson with 19points. Pilcher scored 15 while sophomore Heather Kay added 10.

Buena Vista clinched the Iowa Conference title and the #1 seedin the IIAC Tournament with a 70-60 victory over Simpson lastSaturday in Storm Lake. Senior Meghan Kelso led the Storm with acareer high 16 points. Pilcher tied the school record for mostrebounds in a game with 16 and scored 15 points. Bogaards added11.

Men’s and Women’s Track

Simpson sent a limited team to the Nebraska WesleyanInvitational last Friday in Lincoln, Neb. More than 20 teams fromall divisions were entered in the meet. No team scores werekept.

Top placings for the Storm included junior Ross Parker whoplaced fifth in the shot put with a toss of 52-5’14 and was25th in the 35-pound weight toss (46-10’34).

Freshman Kyle Peterson finished fourth in the long jump with aleap of 21-0 and placed 10th in the triple jump with a leap of41-5’14.

Top placings for the Lady Storm included sophomore Jen Wendt whoplaced fourth in the one mile run in a time of 5:19.64.

Senior Jessica Capper tied the school record for the shot putwith a toss of 41-11’12 placing her eighth in the meet andprovisionally qualifying her for the NCAA Division III IndoorChampionships. Capper placed 29th in the 20-pound weight toss(42-1’12).
