Wrestling

The dual between third ranked Simpson and NCAA Division IITruman State scheduled for Feb. 6 in Kirksville, Mo. was cancelleddue to weather and will not be made up. The Storm is off until theIIAC Championships being held Feb. 19.

Men’s Basketball

The Storm beat Loras on senior Nick Boyd’s three-pointer with notime left on the clock last Friday in Indianola. Boyd’s shot putthe Simpson ahead by one point resulting in a final score of 65-64.Freshman Ryan Hittenmiller led the Storm with 17 points.

Simpson won another one point victory when senior Matt Brown’sfree throw pushed the Storm to a 74-73 lead past Dubuque with onesecond remaining Saturday night in Indianola. Brown led Simpsonwith 17 points and freshman Jason Soppe pulled a career high 10rebounds while adding 8 points to the Storm victory.

Women’s Basketball

Loras won a close game defeating Simpson 57-54 last Friday nightin Indianola. The action went back and forth, where at one pointthe Storm went on a 12-0 scoring run to cut the Duhawk lead to onepoint. Senior Amanda Pilcher scored 22 points and completed 11rebounds while sophomore Sarah Pearson scored 11 and grabbed sevenrebounds.

Dubuque recorded its fourth victory in 45 all-time seriesmeetings with the Storm defeating Simpson 95-83 last Saturday nightin Indianola. Pilcher led the Storm scoring 28 points on 12-14shooting resulting in the fourth best shooting night in a game inschool history. Junior Ashley Bogaards charted 13 points whilefreshman Tessa Van Oosbree added 11.

Men’s Track

Simpson posted a second place finish at the Cornell HilltopInvitational last Saturday in Mt. Vernon. Junior Ross Parker wonthe shot put for the third straight week with the second longestperformance in school history on a toss of 51-5. Parker reset theschool record for the third week in a row and placed second in the35-pound weight throw with a toss of 49-10’12.

Women’s Track

Simpson finished third last Saturday at the Cornell HilltopInvitational in Mt. Vernon. Sophomore Jen Wendt outdistanced thesecond place runner from Cornell by almost four seconds when shewon the 1500m in a time of 4:59.35 and she finished second in the1000m with a time of 3:11.91. Sophomore Kathryn Fenneman finished10th in the pole vault with a school record leap of 7-6 in thehighest distance a Storm women’s competitor has gone in the eventeither in the indoor or outdoor pole vault.

Swimming

Simpson finished fourth with a score of 197 at the second annualIowa Conference Invitational this past weekend in Cedar Rapids.Senior Dana Kuiken won three individual races with record times ineach one. Kuiken won the 100 freestyle in a meet record time of:56.12, the 200 breaststroke in a IIAC record time of 2:34.59 andthe 100 breaststroke in an IIAC Invitational record time of1:09.95. Kuiken is a two-time Iowa Conference Women’s Athlete andWomen’s Swimmer of the Week this season.
