Storm fares well in Simpson Classic

The Simpson Softball Classic scheduled for last weekend wasmoved to Cedar Rapids due to weather. The Storm played their fourgames at both Tomahawk Park and Clark Field on the campus of CoeCollege.

The Storm started off the first day by defeating Viterbo 8-0 infive innings. Senior Alexis Angier went 3-3 with a double and twoRBI’s. Sophomore Bradi Smith tossed a complete game two-hitter.

Simpson ended day one by defeating Monmouth (Ill.) 3-0.Simpson’s first homerun of the season was hit by senior JillCarson. Freshman Storm pitcher Marissa Campbell went three and athird innings, striking out six and posting the victory.

Simpson began day two with a 2-1 victory over UW-Stout. Smithposted her ninth victory of the season with a complete five gamehitter. She struck out seven.

UW-Eau Claire defeated Simpson 8-3 in the Storm’s final game ofthe tournament. Junior Kate Brandt went 2-3 with one run scored.Carson recorded her second home run of the year.

Men’s Tennis Shuts Out the Competition

Simpson defeated Buena Vista for the second time this season.Winning in singles for the Storm were junior Luc Mbenoun, seniorSam Skalland, senior Garrett Piklapp, junior Andrew Merrill, juniorCory Veen, and senior David Venables. Winning in doubles were thepairs of Mbenoun and Piklapp, Skalland and Merrill, and Veen andVenables.

The Storm won a pair of duels March 20 in Indianola shutting outboth Loras and Upper Iowa 7-0. Winning in singles against Loraswere Mbenoun, Skalland, Piklapp, Merrill, Veen, and Venables.Mbenoun and Piklapp, Skalland and Merrill, and Veen and Venablesposted victories in doubles.

Winning in singles against Upper Iowa were Skalland, Piklapp,Merrill, Veen, Venables, and freshman Marcus Bowersox. Skalland andMerrill, Piklapp and Venables, and Veen and Bowersox werevictorious in doubles.
