The Simpson women’s basketball team lost its first-round game at St. Benedict on March 2, 80-63. The team ends the season 22-7 overall.

Leading the way for the Storm was junior Heather Kay with 12 points. Senior Ashley Bogaards and freshman Carlie Beals added 11 points each.

“Overall we played really hard and left it out on the court,” Kay said.

St. Benedict took an early 13-2 lead. Three-point shots helped the Blazers – they went 10-for-20 and shot 47 percent from the field. The Storm shot just 35 percent from the field.

“I thought we played real hard,” freshman Katelyn Whiton said. “It was their home court and they were hitting a lot of three pointers.”

The Storm pulled back to within five points at halftime, but couldn’t get the lead. The Blazers gained a double-digit lead and didn’t give it up.

Kay is happy with what the team accomplished and looks forward to next season.

“We accomplished things people didn’t expect us to and we did it as a team,” Kay said. “We’re hoping to make it back next year and get through a couple of rounds.”
