Poker players flock to PCs

Junior James Schelling likes to hang out with famous poker players – online.
“I like Full Tilt because there are often famous players,” Shelling said. “It is fun to sit down with the world’s greatest players and bluff them.”
The Full Tilt Web site claims famous poker players participate on its site, but more and more students are interested in poker thanks to increased televising of poker championships.
Computer lab supervisor Rita Watson has noticed the increased popularity of poker at Simpson.
“Every year there is a new popular download and this year, poker wins the award hands down,” said Watson.
Allan Appenzeller, director of information services, said Simpson’s labs don’t have firewalls yet, but they soon will due to downloads such as the poker programs.
“We have taken increased security measures since the virus problem two years ago,” Appenzeller said.
Shelling said he would play poker online in his room instead of in the labs if he could.
“I wouldn’t tie up the computers in the labs to play if I could play on my computer,” Schelling said. “The best sites to play at aren’t available behind the firewall.”
