A 19-year-old male has been arrested in the Jan. 20 assault in Buxton Park involving senior Dusty Kain.

An Indianola Police Department investigation discovered that Ryan Thomas Gray, 19, of Bevington, had a physical confrontation with Kain.

On Feb. 8 at around 12:30 p.m., Gray turned himself into the IPD, was read his miranda rights and admitted that he provoked the physical altercation with Kain. He’s charged with simple assault with a court date scheduled for tomorrow.

The assault Gray is being charged with happened around 11 p.m. on Jan. 20 when four unidentified men attacked Kain. Kain was walking in the park and the four male subjects approached him and started hitting and kicking him, according to the certificate of probable cause.

The attack left cuts and swelling on Kain’s face, and his cell phone was stolen.

At this time, Director of Security Chris Frerichs and Stephanie Krauth, associate director of students, were not able to comment.

Kain said he hadn’t heard anything about the arrest.

“I don’t really care what happens to him,” Kain said. “It’s not really going to change anything. I don’t really know the guy so I don’t care if he’s sitting at home or sitting in jail. Either way, it’s not going to affect my life.”
