Letter to the editor:

The Fourth Annual Living the Dream: End the ‘Isms’ March and rally will be held on Friday, March 30, at 3:30 p.m. This event sprang forth out of Simpson’s Ounce of Doing program in 2004. The goal of the Ounce of Doing program is to get students and faculty involved in bettering their communities by living out the ideals of social justice that were so wonderfully exemplified by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

We will gather at the Circle of Knowledge at 3:30 p.m. and march to the town square. The rally will feature a number of speakers on various issues relating to discrimination. Speakers include Simpson students and faculty, as well as Indianola and Des Moines community leaders.

Following the speakers, we will be treated to musical performances by Simpson’s own David Wolf and Mark Green and Anders and Nels Dovre. Also, free food and drink from local businesses will be provided.

The march has grown each of the last three years, and we fully expect this to be the biggest and best event yet. In 2004, there were approximately 80 participants. That number has roughly doubled each of the following years, as 2006 saw approximately 400 participants. We invite you to attend this celebration of human diversity. This is an opportunity for Simpson to show its support for equality and social justice.

Start living the dream. See you at the Circle of Knowledge!

Sincerely,

Living the Dream Event Organizers
