Day in the life of...Matt Turk

by J.T. JordanStaff Writer

Many Simpson athletes and sports fans may recognize Sports Information Director Matt Turk by his attendance at all Simpson athletic events. What people may not realize, though, is that his work schedule is predicated by these very sporting events.

His attendance at these events assures that Simpson athletics will remain adequately promoted, and in some cases, run smoothly when he is involved in keeping the official game statistics. It is because of these responsibilities that Turk doesn’t work a traditional work schedule during the day of an event.

The day of a basketball game:

9:00-10:00 a.m. – Arrive at Work

10:00-5:00 p.m. – Work a regular day by updating the sports portion of the Simpson Web site, write game notes, work on Simpson sports press releases, etc.

5:00 – Go downstairs into the Cowles Fieldhouse gym before the start of the game to set up

5:30 – Help the student radio personnel, seniors Bryan Geelan and Derek Hannah, get settled in

6:00 – Run official statistics when women’s game begins

7:30-7:45 – Women’s game ends

7:45-8:00 – Distribute statistics to the coaches, update the score on Simpson’s Web site and write a post game press release

8:00-8:15 – Run official statistics

during men’s game

9:30-9:45 – Men’s game ends

9:45 – Update scores and

put out post-game press

releases on Simpson’s

Web site

11:00 – Go home
