Football (2-4 Overall, 1-3 IIAC)
L 28-21 vs. Central, Oct. 6: Simpson turned the ball over twice inside the Central 10-yard line and committed five turnovers on the game. Junior running back Adam Reutzel carried 26 times for a career high 152 yards and a touchdown as the Storm out-gained the seventh ranked Dutch 425 to 375. Senior receiver Trent Kain caught three passes for 98 yards and scored a touchdown.
4th (1383) @ IIAC Championships, Oct. 5-6: Simpson ended the two-weekend long tournament two strokes behind Luther. Sophomore Megan Smith ended the tournament in fourth (334), followed by sophomore Katie Vaux in ninth (340). Both earned all-conference honors for their efforts.
Men’s Soccer (3-8-1, 3-0 IIAC)
W 4-0 vs. Cornell, Oct. 6: Freshman forward Jim Frizzell scored a pair of goals and assisted on another to lead the Storm in their 15th straight victory over the Rams. The other two goals were from sophomore mid-fielder Corey Miller and freshman defender Chris Lindo.
Women’s Soccer (3-6, 1-2 IIAC)
L 2-0 vs. Cornell, Oct. 6: Despite out-shooting the Rams 12-9, Simpson fell to Cornell for the first time since 2004. Junior goalkeeper Whitney Franker had four saves.
Women’s Tennis (7-9, 5-4 IIAC)
L 9-0 vs. Graceland, Oct. 5: The Storm failed to record a win against the Yellow Jackets in a match that replaced a trip to Monmouth, Illinois that was cancelled.
Volleyball (14-7, 3-2 IIAC)
L 3-2 vs. Central, Oct. 3: Simpson built a 2-1 advantage before falling in the final two games of the match against the 19th ranked Dutch. Sophomore middle-hitter Whitney Oviatt led four players in double digit kills for the Storm (16).
2-2 @ IIAC-MIAC Border Battle, Oct. 5-6: Simpson fell to No. 24 Carleton (3-1) and No. 6 St. Thomas (3-0), while notching victories over Gustavus Adolphus (3-2) and No. 12 Concordia-Moorhead (3-2). Junior Amanda Norelius was Simpson’s representative on the all-tournament team.
