After the Storm

Men’s Basketball (6-17, 3-11 IIAC)

L 103-65 @ Buena Vista, Feb. 13: Freshman Dave Johnson led the Storm with 13 points against the Beavers by making three shots from beyond the arc and going 4-4 from the charity stripe. Sophomore Tim Dunlavy turned in a 12 point, six rebound performance. Sophomore Andrew Dau scored 10 points in the contest.

L 65-61 vs. Wartburg, Feb. 16: Johnson was the leading scorer for the Storm for the second time in as many games with a 14 point outing against the Knights. Dunlavy turned in yet another solid performance by scoring 11 points and grabbing nine rebounds. The Storm were down by as many as 14 in the second half, but made a close game of it down the stretch. Dunlavy knocked in a three with five seconds left on the clock, before the Knights came away with a close win.

Women’s Basketball (21-2, 13-1 IIAC)

W 91-75 @ Buena Vista, Feb. 13: Senior Katelyn Whiton led all scorers in the contest with 25 points. Juniors Carrie Larson and Denisha Fields both had solid outings against the Beavers, both scoring 13 points. The Storm shot just shy of 59 percent from the field, while the Beavers shot just 44 percent.

W 62-47 vs. Wartburg, Feb. 16: The Storm women clinched their sixth IIAC title in 11 years with a 15-point win over the Knights. Senior Ashley Katch led the way with 17 points, seven rebounds and four blocked shots. Whiton added 12 points in the victory for the Storm.

Men’s and Women’s Track and Field

University of Wisconsin-Plateville Open, Feb.16: no team scores.

Women- Sophomore Lauren Bucklin placed first in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.43. Sophomore Lauren Anderson finished second in the 55 hurdles with a time of 8.77. Simpson placed first in the 4×200-meter relay with a time of 1:48.38. Sophomore Kellie Whitney placed second in the triple jump with a distance of 10.54 meters.

Men- Sophomore Wardell Watkins placed first in the long jump with a distance of 6.71m. Sophomore Marty Rounds placed third in the 55 hurdles with a time of 7.79. Sophomore Eric Patten placed third in the 800 with a time of 1:56.74.

Wrestling (4-10, 1-7 IIAC)

W 42-3 @ Central, Feb. 12: The wrestling program earned its 400th dual meet victory since it began in 1924. Freshman Caleb Brus won his match in the 141 pound weight division. Sophomore Curtis Barber, junior Ben Hektoen and senior Garret Kiley all won their matches by forfeit. Senior Geoff Murtha won the match for the 165 pound weight class, freshman Jordy Ammons won in the 174 pound weight division and sophomore Sam Collora earned a win in the 197 pound weight division to round out the historic victory for the Storm.

Men’s Tennis (0-3, 0-2 IIAC)

L 9-0 vs. Dordt College, at Storm Lake, Feb. 16: Senior Neil Bontrager was the only Storm player to win a set against Dordt College

L 7-2 @ Buena Vista, Feb. 16: Senior Brad Wilharber won his match in two sets with scores of 6-2 and 6-0. Bontrager won his match in three sets with scores of 6-3, 3-6, and 10-7.
