Men’s Basketball (6-15, 3-9 IIAC)

L 78-73 vs. Central, Feb. 7: Sophomore center Tim Dunlavy led the Storm with 12 rebounds and 26 points. Senior guard Brennen Tubaugh posted 12 points, followed by freshmen guard Dave Johnson with 11. Junior forward David Ferezy put up 6 blocks. Johnson had 5 steals.

W 65-60 @ Luther, Feb. 9: Junior guard Matt Gilbert led Simpson with 21 points, Tubaugh added 16 and Dunlavy had 13. Freshman forward Reid Branderhorst tallied 11 rebounds.

Women’s Basketball (19-2, 11-1 IIAC)

W 120-41 vs. Central, Feb. 7: The women reset the record for most points scored in a game. They also broke the record for most rebounds in a game with 66. The 79-point margin of victory was the second highest in school history. Senior guard Carlie Beals led the Storm in points with 21, going 5-for-6 in 3-pointers. Denisha Fields posted career highs with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Senior center Ashley Katch had 6 blocks.

L 69-65 @ Luther, Feb. 9: Beals led the Storm in points again with 14, followed by senior forward Katelyn Whiton and junior forward Whitney Franker, each with 12. Katch had 11 rebounds.

Men’s and Women’s Track and Field

Dennis Young Classic at Buena Vista, Feb. 9: Both the men’s and the women’s teams took first with scores of 194 and 253, respectively. Sophomores Casey Dunning, with a time of 16:10.48, and Tricia Davis, with a 21:19.79, each took first in the 5000-meter run. With a time of 8.57, sophomore Lauren Bucklin won the 55-meter hurdles and freshman Vanessa Evenson took the 55-meter dash with a 7.84. Both winning the mile, sophomore Tyler Jordison ran a 4:24.92 and freshman Catie Ellingson ran a 5:09.12. Ellingson also placed first in the 800, running a time of 2:19.03. Freshman Molly Sabers, with a 1:02.00, took the 400. Sophomores Eric Patten and Sarah Hammel each won the 600 with times of 1:24.09 and 1:38.36, respectively. Freshman Luke Weber, with a 9:49.64, took the 3000. The Storm won the men’s 1600-meter relay (3:29.52) and distance medley (11:39.21) and the women’s 4×200 (1:50.95) and distance medley (13:28.32). Junior Kayla Knack, with a throw of 14.36 meters, won the weight throw. In the shot put, sophomore John Wardenburg, placed first with a throw of 14.20. Sophomore Kellie Whitney took first in the long jump with a jump of 4.89 meters and sophomore Lauren Anderson, with a mark of 2.58, won the pole vault by tie-breaker. Whitney and sophomore Wardell Watkins each won the triple jump with jumps of 10.44 and 12.86, respectively.

Wrestling

L 35-9 @ No. 18 Loras, Feb. 7: Freshman Caleb Brus put the first points on the board, claiming a 4-2 victory at 141 pounds. Sophomore Curtis Barber won his match 7-4 at 149. Senior Geoff Murtha took the final Simpson victory, 8-3 in the 165-pound match.
