Baseball (11-7, 4-2 IIAC)
L 9-2 and W 9-7 @ Graceland University, March 26: Senior Shane Akers was the starting pitcher for the Storm in the second game of the doubleheader. Akers pitched two innings and struck out three batters. Junior Cory Dawson was 2 for 4 at the plate and drove in two of the Storm’s nine runs to help win the second game.
W 16-2 @ Cornell, March 28: Sophomore Beau Kaplan turned in a solid performance for the Storm, batting 2-4 and notching three RBIs. Junior Chris Jones also contributed a 2-4 performance at the plate and drove in another three runs for the Storm. Senior Trent Kain pitched eight innings, giving up just four hits and two runs, while striking out seven batters.
W 6-2 and 8-1 @ Cornell, March 29: The Storm was able to sweep the doubleheader with the help of a pair of good pitching performances. Junior Jared Sass pitched seven innings in the first game, giving up just four hits and two runs. Senior Jake Ritchey gave up just three hits and one run while striking out six batters in the second game.
Softball (15-5, 2-0 IIAC)
W 5-1 and 6-0 @ Nebraska Wesleyan, March 26: Sophomore Jessica Barkley batted 2-2 and drove in three runs for the Storm in the first game. Sophomore Whitney Oviatt pitched five innings in the first game, giving up just three hits and one run. Senior Calie Hohneke gave up just four hits and struck out five batters in the nightcap.
W 5-0 and 5-2 vs. Loras, March 29: The Storm won both games in the doubleheader with the help of two solid pitching performances. Oviatt gave up just three hits and struck out 11 batters in seven innings of work. Hohneke gave up only four hits and two runs, while striking out six batters in the second game.
Women’s Basketball (27-3, 15-1 IIAC)
March 21: Senior forward Katelyn Whiton was named to the 2008 NCAA Division III State Farm Coaches All-America Basketball Team. Whiton is the first Storm player to be named first team All-American since Laurie Sankey in 1984.
