Road Trip:

University of Northern Iowa will be celebrating their Homecoming this weekend. The game is Oct. 11 at the UNI-Dome with kickoff starting at 4:05 p.m. If you can’t make it up to Cedar Falls this weekend you can watch it live on Mediacom.

Jimmie “JJ” Walker will be at the Funny Bone Comedy Club Oct. 8-12 with shows starting at 7:30 p.m. and 9:45 p.m.

Now that Halloween is fast approaching everyone has got to be ready for some good ole Haunted Houses.

The Ames Haunted Forest is one of many popular Halloween events going on this weekend. The forest will be open Oct. 10 through November 1 from 7 p.m. to midnight. The cost is $12.00, and you can order your tickets ahead of time by calling 515-249-0553 or going to their website, http://www.ameshauntedforest.com/.

Check It:

Oct. 16 Gavin Degraw will be rockin’ the stage at the Val Air Ballroom. Doors open at 7 p.m. with the show starting at 8 p.m. Tickets are on sale now for $22.00.

Also, Montgomery Gentry will be at the Val Air on Oct. 23 with tickets at $43.00 the first week and then $48.00 after. You can also purchase a VIP Pass which includes VIP seating, a free beverage, and dinner from the Texas Roadhouse. This should be a big show so get your tickets fast!

Friday, Oct. 10, the Liar’s Club will be giving out free beer and Papa John’s Pizza to all their customers from 3 to 7 p.m. This is just for that special 21 and over crowd. The Liar’s Club is located at 216 Court Ave. Suite 201.

Down Under Bar and Grill is having $5.50 pitchers, $1.50 draws, $11.00 buckets and $3.00 wells from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday Oct. 12. Down Under Bar and Grill is located at 8350 Hickman Road in Clive.

The Dish:

For all you hungry ones out there, this is the weekend for you. The World Food Festival will be in Des Moines in the East Village Oct. 10-12. It begins at 11 p.m.and runs until 5 p.m. There is no cost to this event as well.

Another good dining experience would be at Trostel’s Greenbriar Restaurant & Bar on Merle Hay Road in Johnston. The menu features slow-roasted prime rib, fresh seafood, aged steaks, pasta, poultry, rack of lamb and roast duck. So if you are looking to impress that certain someone, this is the place to try it out.

Something a little closer to campus would be the infamous Sport’s Page Bar & Grill. It’s almost impossible to find anyone at this college that hasn’t been to the “Spage”. This Restaurant and Bar is a great place to relax and enjoy the game or have a cold beverage.

Looking for something to do tonight? No fear, Oct. 9 from 5 to 8 p.m., there is a wine tasting at Sbrocco Wine Bar and Wine Shop at 208 Court Avenue. The cost is $2.00 a person. If you want more information on this event you can call 515-282-3663.
