Our View

Since there has been a lot of media attention in recent months revolving around student-teacher relationships, it’s refreshing to know that the faculty here at Simpson take this situation seriously and have re-examined the dual relationship policy.

It’s always a good idea to know where those boundaries lie, and trust us, we’re glad to hear that there are no reports of professor-student dual relationships this year. In fact, it’s been a while since we’ve heard of anything like that.

Such relationships can have a lasting impact on an entire college community, not just those immediately involved.

One of the great things about Simpson is the close connection that can be forged between students and professors. Imagine what it would be like if you couldn’t comfortably go to your professor’s office to ask questions about an upcoming paper or a recent quiz, or even just shoot the breeze after class.

Many of us have great relationships with our professors, and we love the fact that we can visit with them about almost anything. It would be a shame to have those relationships ruined because a violation of the dual-relationship policy occurred.
