Pick 3: Celebrate Valentine’s Day in style

by Hanna Russmann/Staff Writer

Not sure what you and your special someone are going to do this Valentine’s Day? Is it just you and your single friends on the worst day to be single?  No problem. Here are three ideas that all you lovely couples or even those of you who are single can do this Valentine’s Day. First, we have the movies. Go out with your sweetheart to see “Dear John,” the perfect make-out movie.  For all you single people, grab your friends and go to “Valentine’s Day.”   It’s about couples and singles on Valentine’s Day and if all else fails, you can always make fun of it. “Valentine’s Day” would also be a good date movie for a couple to go see.If you and your single friends have decided to go totally anti-Valentine’s Day this year, there are several other movies out that are very anti-lovey-dovey.  Three releases that would make everyone forget that it’s Valentine’s Day are “TheWolfman,” “Frozen” and “From Paris with Love.” Don’t let the last one fool you if you haven’t seen the preview yet. It has little to do with love. Next, go out to eat. Nothing says romance like taking your girl out for Italian. Share a plate of spaghetti and recreate the dinner scene from “Lady and The Tramp.” It’s the perfect way to steal a kiss.  Sam and Gabe’s Italian Bistro in Des Moines will be open for Valentine’s Day from 5 to 9 p.m.  A steak and lobster meal and a prime rib special will be offered in addition to the regular menu. The Funny Bone Comedy Club in Des Moines will also be offering Valentine’s Day specials and it is the perfect place for singles and their friends to laugh the Valentine’s blues away. You never know, it might just be the place to meet someone too.  The buffet is open from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and the laughter starts at 7:30 p.m. Finally, for those of you who want to do something big for your significant other, a concert is just the ticket for you.  Tim McGraw is playing Feb. 13 at the Wells Fargo Arena. It’s one day before Valentine’s Day, but it can be just as special. Fall in love again with your sweetie to the sound of country music. For all the singles out there, a Tim McGraw concert is also a good place to meet a good-looking country boy or country girl. You too could fall in love this Valentine’s Day, and if not, you will still have a pretty awesome Valentine’s Day. Tickets are still available, ranging in price from $24.75 to $55.75.  For more information, check out the Iowa Events Center at www.iowaeventscenter.com.  Movies, dinner and a concert are just three great ways to spend Valentine’s Day for both couples and singles.  So get excited and plan something cool to do but most importantly, have a lot of fun this Valentine’s Day.
