Football Preview

The Simpson Football team had to go back to the drawing board this week after a 14-33 loss to Buena Vista last Saturday.

Now the Storm is turning its focus to foe Luther, who will be in town to conclude Homecoming week, and Simpson is planning on walking away with its second win of the season.

“We need to have a different team attitude,” Head Football Coach Jim Glogowski said. “Not sweat the small stuff.”

According to Glogowski the best thing for his players to focus on is having fun.

“I want my players to have fun and not worry about the mistakes,” Glogowski said. “The good thing about (the team) worrying about past mistakes is that I know they care.”

The stat sheet against the Beavers reveals the story of the game as the Storm was outpaced in nearly every category. Simpson held a good fight as they nearly matched Buena Vista in first downs. However, the Storm was outgained in total offensive yards by 79.

Three different players saw time in the quarterback slot for the Storm on Saturday; Junior Chris Garza, junior Colton Calvert and freshman Taylor Nelson.

Junior defensive lineman Justin Bolkema recorded four solo tackles and assisted in one other, along with sophomore defensive lineman J.J. Nair who had two sacks for the Storm.

The Luther Norse is entering Saturday’s contest with a 1-2 record with its only win coming against Northwestern College.

Luther’s sophomore running back Dan Ridenour has been leading the Norse’s running game and rushed for 79 yards against Northwestern on Saturday, Sept. 11. The Storm will have its work cut out for them.

“We have to play every second, so the end isn’t so critical,” Glogowski said.
