Storm Baseball Struggles at Central

by Aaron Young

PELLA, Iowa- The Simpson baseball team were back into action Tuesday when they faced conference rival Central.

Jake Barr was the bright spot for the storm going 3 for 4 in game one. Brett Crable’s single was able to drive in Barr, giving the Storm a 1-0 lead in the top of the inning number one. That lead diminished quickly as freshman pitcher, Adam Richman threw three wild pitches and hit three pitchers. This gave Central the momentum and the lead at 3-1. The second inning proved to be similar of the first inning and Central took a commanding 6-1 lead. After building an impressive lead, the Dutch never turned back. The Dutch were lead by pitcher Robbie Rushing. Rushing put the game out of reach by compililing eight strikeouts for the entire game.

The second game had many similar struggles to the first game. Jake Sciesnzinski and Jake Esdohr provided the spark for the Storm in this game. Esdohr singled to lead off and Sciesnzinski single drove in Esdohr to tie the game at 1-1. The Storm didn’t get any closer as they committed seven turnovers, resulting in four unearned runs.

The offense was also a problem in game two. After Esdohr and Scienszinksi’s hits in the second inning, the Storm could only muster three hits the rest of the way. Central continued to build its lead throughout the game by scoring runs in virtually every inning.

The Storm are looking to bounce back Friday and Saturday when they take on Wartburg at McBride Field. Friday’s doubleheader will start at 3:30 p.m. followed by a 1p.m. start on Saturday.
