Q: What is your official title at Simpson?

A: Assistant Director of Residence Life.

Q: Where are you from, and where did you graduate from?

A: “I’m an Iowa native. I grew up in southern Iowa, but I call Correctionville, Iowa my home. That’s where my family still lives and where I spent most of my schooling. I went to Coe College, where I graduated with a degree in psychology, and then I went on to grad school at the University of Northern Iowa, where I graduated with a master’s degree in post-secondary education.”

Q: Why did you choose Simpson?

A: “So, after my grad program, I kind of went away from higher education, oddly enough, and I worked in social work, essentially. But I really wanted to work with students much more closely again; that’s why I wanted to get my master’s in student affairs. I wanted to get back into it. I love doing housing, and I love small schools where I get to know everybody, so it all just kind of aligned really well. By the time I wanted to get back into working in small, private liberal arts schools, Simpson had a job opening, so I applied and came on over in May.”

Q: What are some of your goals for this year?

A: “I love working with first years because they’re trying to figure life out, as well as trying to be a good student, and that’s hard to balance, so my goal for that area in that community is to be able to provide support, but to also challenge them to be good students and challenge them to strive for more. I was also really into Greek life when I was at Coe College. I would love to be a support system for the Greeks in that capacity as well and to be able to support them in their uniqueness.”

Q: What do you do outside of work? Do you have any hobbies?

A: “Yeah, I am a total nerd, self-proclaimed, so I play a lot of video games. I play a lot of Dungeons and Dragons, and I love going disc golfing, so that’s how I get my exercise.”
